Flamingo: how we built a free AI virtual try-on app
Flamingo is a free AI virtual try-on and digital wardrobe app. Send it a selfie and a head-to-toe photo, and about a minute later you have a twin: an AI avatar of you that wears whatever you put on it.
The problem
Shop photos show clothes on a model, not on you. Fitting rooms only hold what one shop has in stock, and you can't mix in the jacket already hanging in your wardrobe. We wanted a way to see a whole outfit, from anywhere, on your own body.
What we built
- Your twin, free. Two photos become a studio-lit avatar with your face and build. You pose once, and every try-on reuses the same twin, so two outfits are easy to compare.
- Try on anything. Clothes you own, pieces from shop catalogues, or garments cut out of a screenshot, alone or as a full outfit.
- A digital closet. Photograph a piece and Flamingo cuts it out and tags it.
- Daily picks, Inspo and more. Outfit suggestions for the weather, a feed of looks you can try on in one tap, a weekly planner, and “Roast my fit”, which scores an outfit out of 10.
Decisions that mattered
No account to start. No email, no password. Link Google or Apple later only if you want your closet on another device.
Honest about fit. A try-on is an AI image. Flamingo is clear that it shows colour, proportion and styling, and you should still check the shop's size guide for sizing.
Menswear and womenswear. Built for everyone from the first release.
Platforms
iPhone, Android and the web at app.tryflamingo.app. The app and twin are free; try-ons come with Flamingo Pro.
